Namm 2001. posted 4/20/2001 at 8:35:08 PM

The Naam show of 2001 was it's centenary year and held in the vast Anaheim conference centre in Los Angeles.
The day before leaving London my motor was broken into and my stupid wife had left her handbag containing passports, drivers licences and the master cd of "THE LAST THROW OF THE DICE" (A new "NETWORK" release) which attracted thieves to break into the motor and steal the contents - hence I arrived in LA with no drivers licence

I should say at this point Tracy and I lived in Hollywood for a year in 1996 so rather than stay down at Annaheim Conference Center with the rest of the berks we opted to stay in "tinseltown" where at least we could get a reasonably priced pint and take in a few clubs.

DAY 1 ; On arrival to the subway link in Hollywood Boulevard I noticed a station on the 'blue' line labelled 'Annaheim' - it appeared to be a mere twenty minute journey to the show "that'll show 'em" - I retorted to my wife. However, on arrival to Annaheim station where most of the people alighting the train spoke only in an hispanic dialect I was informed that this was 'Annaheim Street' and not the Annaheim Conference Center.

We reboarded another train heading south and alighted at Long Beach. Luckily this was the home of the Long Beach Brewery - and at that point in time the brewery seemed a more appealing option than the Axis stand at the Annaheim Conference Center.

On tap were a wheat beer, a red ale , a chocolate stout, a pale ale and indeed some seven different ales.

The hostelry proved a great success and we ordered a cab and headed for the conference center.

TO BE CONTINUED .........

I went to the namm show in Los Angeles in January representing Axis pedals. On the axis stand along with Darrell Johnson were 2 great drummers Tim Waterson and Dave Maneely both experts in the heel-toe technique.
Arnie Lang from Lang percussion in New York stayed at the same hotel in Hollywood as me and my wife. He was teaching at USC along with Erik Forrester the famous percussionist,
although he came down to the show for afew days with the axis crew.
There is subway in Hollywood now so most days we took the train from Hollywood Boulevard to Central Station then the Surfliner southbound to Anaheim (near Disneyland). Luckily the bar on the Surfliner contained a selection of micro-brews from stone ale ranging from a hoppy I.P.A to a robust porter and a 7% (much needed on Sunday) strong bitter.
This provided refreshment on the way to Namm which was generally seriously required after the preceding night in Hollywood.
